Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gramm Funeral Home, 720 North 6th Street, in Ipswich, SD.
Norma was born to Julius and Hilda (Glaser) Guthmiller of Leola, SD on July 28, 1936. She attended country school and then later Leola High School. She enjoyed babysitting in her younger years and spending her summers with her grandparents. Following her schooling, she worked as a nurses’ aide at the Leola Community Hospital.
She was united in marriage to Elmer Schock on November 26, 1954 in Leola. For a brief period, they lived and farmed with Elmer's parents until they moved to a rented farm for a few years. On August 26, 1958 they became the proud parents of a son, Dean Alan. In 1959 they moved to their permanent home, a farm 3 miles west of Leola, and on September 21, 1959 a bouncing baby girl, Judy Kay was born into their family.
Norma was a partner for Elmer throughout their farming years. She was a person of strong faith; a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and Confirmation, and belonged to the ladies group.
She was a very crafty person, having many hobbies over the course of her lifetime. She was an original DIY person, crafting and constructing things for her home and yard. She loved gardening, quilting, crocheting, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, camping, traveling south to Texas to spend winters and most of all spending time with family and friends.
Norma died on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
