Obituary
James A. Crum ?Crummy? age 75, of Caldwell, OH passed away Monday, August 5, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 6, 1943 in Carlisle, OH a son of the late Edwin L. and Anita R. Kuhn Crum.
He was a 1961 graduate of the Summerfield High School and went on to earn, with honors, a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration from the Ohio University. He was the former owner and president of the Crum & Richards Insurance Agency in Caldwell for many years. Prior to operating his own business, he was employed at the former NCR Corp in Cambridge for 10 years. He was a member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell and earned his 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus Council #2565. He was a member of the Caldwell VFW Post #4721, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1930 and Cambridge Elks Lodge #448.
He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing, bowling and especially fishing with his grandchildren. He was always seen cheering on his grandchildren in their sports and activities. He was a member of the Caldwell High School Football ?Chain Gang? for over 30 years. He could often be found making trips to Wheeling Island along with his wife Audrey. He was a strong supporter of the Cincinnati Reds and Notre Dame.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister-in-law Linda Crum.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Audrey M. Butler Crum, whom he married August 22, 1964; 4 children Mike (Amy Hesson) Crum of Caldwell, Daren (Holly Gray) Crum of Norwich, OH, Karen Halasi of Zanesville, OH, and Stacey (Peter) Patton of Minneapolis, MN; 10 grandchildren Haley Crum, Jordan Halasi, Derek Crum, Ryan Halasi, Alex Halasi, Luke Patton, Hannah Crum, Jacob Crum, Nick Patton, and C.J. Patton; great-granddaughter Charleigh Lyons; 4 brothers Roger L. (Donna) Crum of Louisville, KY, Kenneth Crum of Columbus, OH, Lawrence A. (Jane) Crum of Seattle, WA, and John E. Crum of Parkersburg, WV. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724, with a Knights of Columbus service concluding visitation at 8:00 PM, followed by a time of sharing for family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1036 Belford Street, Caldwell, OH 43724, with Rev. Father Dale Tornes and Rev. Father Chester Pabin serving as concelebrants. Burial will follow at the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Carlisle.
