Obituary for Mrs. Colleen R. Hoerner
COLLEEN R. HOERNER, 88, of Yakima, died January 1, 2015 in Yakima. She was born June 21, 1926 in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota and had lived in the Yakima area since 1950.
Mrs. Hoerner married Joe Liston when she was 17. He died in a car accident two years later. She married Irvin Hoerner January 9, 1948 in Haymarsh, ND, moving to Yakima in 1950, then to Selah in 1957. Lived in the Selah area until she moved to Yakima, living with her daughter Lea for the past three years. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Selah. She worked at the Chinook Hotel from 1963 to the early 1970’s, when she went to work for the Yakima Telephone Answering Service until she retired. She was a member of TOPS in Yakima and the YLI group at Our Lady of Lourdes. Before Irvin’s death they were able to spend a winter in Lost Lake, CA. She said they had the best time of their lives that winter. Collen was a foster parent for several years during the 60’s for two teenage girls and a newborn baby boy.
She is survived by three daughters: Lea (Warren) Stillwaugh, Cheryl Hoerner (Tom Davis), Jean (Tim) Anderson; sister-in-heart: Mert Lehman.
Grandchildren: Krista Castellanos, Tara Semerdjyan, Erin (Stillwaugh) Perisho, Katie (Anderson) Barker, Darcy (Anderson) Grager, Kevin Anderson, Del Stillwaugh, Larry Stillwaugh, Tammi Garlock and Linda Ayling who was welcomed into the family and Colleen embraced her as a granddaughter as well as her children as great-grandchildren. Great-grandchildren: Claire, Jenna & Sara Castellanos, Casey & Nathan Barker, Josephine & Amelia Grager, Matthew & Samuel Semerdjyan.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 6, 2015 at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, 201 N. 2nd St., Yakima. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1112 W. Freemont Ave, Selah. Interment will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
