Val L. Hoerner, 87, Bismarck, died Sept. 1, 2006, at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
Services are at 11 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, Sept 5, 2006, at the Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation is Monday from 3:30 – 7 p.m. and the rosary/vigil service is at 7 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Val was born Jan. 23, 1919, on the farm at Richardton to Michael and Eleanora (Stein) Hoerner. He attended Assumption Abbey High School and graduated from Dickinson State College with a bachelor of science degree in 1942.
He entered the Army and was attached to the HQ Unit at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was married to his wife on Feb. 1, 1943. When he was discharged, they made their home in Mott.
He worked at various jobs and owned and operated the Style Shoppe in Mott. He taught high school in Delamere, was the superintendent in White Earth, Bordulac and Selfridge, ending his teaching career in Dickinson.
They retired in Dickinson and moved to Bismarck in 1993. He was always challenged by fixing broken items and became know as the "Fix-it Dad." He enjoyed fishing and motor home traveling.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Fred, Peter and Emil; and four sisters Eleanor Forester, Anna Berger, Nellie Kuch, and Margaret Rummel and all their spouses. (Bismarck Funeral Home)
