Gary L. Ressler, 73, Bismarck, formerly of Mandan, died Sept. 4, 2015, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Christopher Kadrmas as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a St. Anthony Verein rosary at 6:15 p.m., a Men of the Moose ritual at 6:30 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Gary was born June 2, 1942, to Anton and Magdaline (Steckler) Ressler in Mandan. He was raised in the St. Anthony area and attended country farm school through the eighth-grade. Gary joined the Army National Guard in December 1962 and served six years, being honorably discharged in April 1968. After his term in the service, he went on to drive truck for Empire Sand and Gravel, Billings, Mont.
Gary was an active person who enjoyed traveling and visited many places including the Bahamas, Hawaii and California and he enjoyed driving his motorcycle through the mountains of Montana. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, riding motorcycle and snowmobiling. Gary was a member of Local No. 49, Mandan Eagles, Mandan Moose and the St. Anthony Verein Rosary Group along with ABATE Motorcycle Club.
Gary will be deeply missed by his brothers, Terron (Beckie) Ressler and Keith (Debbie) Ressler, both of Mandan; his sister, Caroline Vaughn, Hemit, Calif.; along with seven nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Magdaline Ressler; an infant sister; and his brother-in-law, Dean Vaughn.
