Obituary for Margaret "Chippy" Hastings
Denton, MD: Margaret "Chippy" Elizabeth Hastings, 59, of Denton, MD passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Memorial Hospital, Easton surrounded by her family. She was born on February 4, 1954 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Raymond C. and Margaret Gibbs Vogt. Chippy had been employed with Bargain Beverage and Thermo Link of Denton. She was a collector of Longaberger Baskets, enjoyed craft shopping and visiting the Pennsylvania Amish Country. She was an avid Orioles fan. Her most favorite thing to do, however, was supporting her grandchildren in their sports and church activities. She was a member of the St. Benedict/St. Elizabeth Catholic Parish. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Paul R. Vogt and sister Mary Ann Hayman. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Bruce Hastings, 2 sons CD Downes and wife Tonya and Wade Downes and wife Katie all of Denton, 2 sisters Joan DeFord of Greensboro and Teresa Manship of Denton, 5 grandchildren Kennedy, Brandon, Brittany, Zachary and Kolby. A Mass of Christian Burial for Chippy will be on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11:00 AM at St. Benedict’s Church in Ridgely, MD. The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct 11 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. Burial will follow the service in the Denton Cemetery. Family suggest donations in Chippy’s memory be made to Caroline Hospice Foundation, P. O. Box 362, Denton, Maryland 21629.
