DELAVAN - Eugene E. Nafziger, 82, of Delavan, Ill., passed away at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
He was born Aug. 14, 1927, in rural Hopedale, Ill., to Aaron and Ella Bachman Nafziger. He married Emily Stanwood on April 17, 1952, in Minier, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Debra (Robert) Becker and Sue (Paul) Dolan, both of Middleton, Wis., and Kathy (Scott) Browning of Fisher, Ill.; one son, Steve (Meg) Nafziger of Woodinville, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, Melanie and Michael Becker, Brian, Christine and Rosa Nafziger, Lanae, Kari and Lindsay Dolan, and Jacob, Elyssa and Samantha Browning; and one sister, Velma Thomas of Hopedale, Ill.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wilmer Nafziger.
Eugene was an active member of the Hopedale Mennonite Church and had served on the board of Menno Haven Camp and Retreat Center for nine years.
He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and WWII and worked at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 39 years, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his family.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Hopedale Mennonite Church. Pastor Kurt Walker will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, also at the church. Burial will be in Mennonite Cemetery in Hopedale. Davis Mortuary in Hopedale is in charge of arrangements.
