Marilyn `Jo' (Evinger) Dever
Marilyn "Jo" (Evinger) Dever, 71, of Evansville, went home to be with her Lord and her loving husband, Bob, on January 3, 2004. She died at Heritage Center of lung cancer.
She was born September 16, 1932, in West Terre Haute, Indiana, to Harry and Dovie Evinger. She moved to Evansville as a young girl and graduated from Bosse High School in 1950. On October 20, 1951, she married Robert L. Dever. Marilyn worked in the office of Loge News Co. for over 20 years. She also co-owned several businesses with her husband. At the time of her death she still owned and operated Readmore Bookstore in North Park Shopping Center. She was an active, longtime member of First Christian Church of Evansville. She was a member of the North Park Merchants Association, where she held numerous offices over the last 17 years, including holding the office of president for many years. She was also a member of the Kennel Club.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bob; her parents, Harry and Dovie Evinger; and three older brothers, Harry, Kenneth "Sandy" and Bill Evinger.
A beloved mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by two daughters, Vonciele Slack and her husband, Terry, and Jolee Quates; and three grandchildren, Schuyler Slack, Taleah Slack and Kameron Quates. She is also survived by three older sisters, Eilene Roberts of West Terre Haute, Ind., Helen Smith of Upland, Ind., and Anna Smith of Evansville, Ind., and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at First Christian Church, 121 Walnut St., officiated by Reverend Mitch Stichler and Reverend Jerry Clark. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday, January 5, 2004, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander North Chapel. Donations may be made to American Lung Association and First Christian Church Building Fund. Condolences may be made online at www.mem.com. Arrangements are by Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road.
