Siela, 91, of Gilman, died at 4:25 A .M., Friday, November 2, 2007 at Prairieview Lutheran Home, Danforth, IL., following an one month illness. His funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, IL., with Rev. Connie Williams Moodie officiating. Burial will be in Gilman Cemetery, Gilman. Military Rites by the Gilman American Legion Post 499. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, IL. Memorials may be made to Gilman American Legion Post 499. Russell was born on January 30, 1916 in Rantoul, IL to Andrew & Emma (Russell) Siela. His childhood was spent in Rantoul, Indiana and Gibson City. He married Loretta Saathoff on September 15, 1947 in Chicago. She died on June 6, 2006. Russell is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. One sister-in-law - Margaret Siela. Pre-decedents - parents, six sisters - Edith, Opal, Marguerite, Dorothy, Eloise and Francis who died in childhood. One brother - Harold. He was a veteran of the Army from 1942 - 1945 serving in the 10th Mountain Division during WWII. He moved to La Hoque in 1946. Russell retired from farming at the age of 65. He and Loretta moved to Gilman in 1975. He enjoyed farming, dancing especially square dancing, western movies, reading, and spending time with family and visiting with friends.
