Roger D. McGinnis, 63, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 15, 1947, in Indianapolis, to Robert G. and Mary K. (Weddle) McGinnis. He married Judy A. (Risch) McGinnis on Aug. 14, 1971, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin. He was a 1965 graduate of Franklin Community High School and attended Indiana State University.
He first worked for the family-owned McGinnis Grocery in Franklin. In 1968, he began his banking career with Franklin Bank and Trust Co. until 1991, serving as vice president of the trust department. He then started the branch of First National Bank in Franklin in 1991 until his retirement in February 2004, serving as vice president and trust officer.
He was past president of Johnson County Senior Services; a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served with the usher team for 40 years; and a member of Franklin Lions Club, where he had served as treasurer. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian service from Lions Clubs International Foundation and also received the W.P. Woods Fellow award from Lions International.
Mr. McGinnis served three years on the board of directors for the Indiana Trotting and Pacing Horse Association and was a member of the Standardbred Indiana Horse Racing Commission, United States Trotting Association, Indiana Standardbred Association, Colt Association of Kentucky and the Kentucky Horsemen's Association.
Survivors include his wife, Judy A. (Risch) McGinnis of Franklin; a daughter, Jennifer (husband Scott) Smith of Carmel; a grandson, Connor Smith of Carmel; a sister, Karen (husband Dan) Hardin of Franklin; a brother, Rex McGinnis of Franklin; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon and Brent Nolting of Franklin; two nephews, Marcus (wife Stephanie) Findley of Olathe, Kan., and Kyle (wife Jessica) Findley of Fishers; three great-nephews, Sheridan, Morgan and Nicholas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a cousin, Nancy Norton; and several aunts and uncles.
The Revs. Robert Coleman and Glenn Beck will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
