Keith C. Madden, 72, of Polk Township, Kunkletown, passed away surrounded by his loving family Monday, June 16, 2014, at home.
Keith was the loving and devoted husband of Joan (Galletly) Madden. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in April.
Keith was born in Queens, New York, on Jan. 25, 1942, and was the son of the late Kenneth and Edith (Boswell) Madden.
He had served our country with dedication and courage in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1961 until 1962 and Reserve Services from 1962 until 1969.
He graduated cum laude from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York, with a bachelor's degree in physics.
Keith had worked as a computer programmer for Kraft Foods International for many years until retiring.
He was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Kunkletown. He served as a member and representative from St. Matthew's at Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network (PVEN).
Keith shared a special bond and enjoyed guiding, volunteering and leading young boys, especially his son and grandsons, in their journey through Boy Scouting.
He also was a member and former secretary of the Nazareth Area Society of Model Engineers (NASME) in Stockertown.
When the time comes to wish Keith speed on his journey, remember him with joy and a song. He always joked that we should stand him in a corner with a beer in his hand and have a party, so please do so.
We have been blessed with the presence of Keith in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Joan of Kunkletown; his daughter, Lori Ann DeWitt of Bartonsville; and his son, Scott Howard Madden of Norristown. He was the loving and gentle grandfather to his two grandsons, Michael Anthony DeWitt and Brandon Michael DeWitt, who lovingly called him "Papa."
Keith is also survived by two sisters, Arlene Gumlaw and Aleta Baker, both of Keeseville, New York; and one niece, two nephews, two great-nieces and five great-nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to offer their condolences from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert. And additional visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at the funeral home.
Dismissal will begin at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral ceremony at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Kunkletown, with the Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope officiating.
Keith will be buried at St. Matthew's Church Cemetery, Kunkletown.
At Keith's request, no flowers, but make donations in his honor to St. Matthew's Memorial Fund, 102 Church Road, Kunkletown, PA 18058, or your favorite animal shelter or any charity you love. The Spastic Paraplegia Foundation is another good one in honor of Brandon, his grandson, who has the rare disorder HSP.
