C. P. Connie Erhardt, 88, entered eternal rest July 2, 2005, at a Bismarck Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be at the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. There will be a Catholic Daughter's Rosary at 4 p.m. Tuesday and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a parish vigil at Weigel Funeral Home.
Connie was born Jan. 7, 1917, to Kasper and Anna (Doll) Erhardt in Oliver County, where he attended rural school and later farmed on the family farm until 1948, when he began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad as a car inspector. He married Rose Zander June 27, 1949, at Crown Butte.
Throughout his life, Connie was dedicated to his family, work, church and community, giving countless hours of his time as an active member whenever he committed to a group or club. As a member of St. Joseph's Church he served on various church councils, he was a Eucharistic Minister which extended to the homebound, Bishop's Pastoral Council and enjoyed a bible study. His career with the railroad spanned 31 years and even after his retirement he became a charter member of the Railroad Museum, also serving on that board. He was a member of the Brotherhood Railway Lodge and served on the board of trustees for Carman Lodge No. 44, as well as the Coalrollers. He was also a life time member of the Knights of Columbus third and fourth degrees, the Elks, Eagles, St. Vincent Varein and the Golden Age Club, where he continued giving of his time for RSVP projects.
Connie enjoyed retirement and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in maintaining a well-groomed yard, his many woodworking projects, playing his accordion and completing his GED with the Mandan Public School's Adult Education. Connie also enjoyed bowling on the Bismarck-Mandan Bowling League, fishing with friends, dancing and playing cards.
He will be dearly missed by Rose, his loving and devoted wife of 56 years; his daughter, Gloria and her husband, Jim Ciavarella; his son, Wally and his wife, Rox Erhardt; his grandchildren, Kari (Jason) Jesch, James (Erica) Ciavarella, David Ciavarella, Jessica (Mike) Wetsch, Missy Erhardt and Mindy Erhardt; his great-granddaughters, Grace and Anna Jesch; his brother and sister-in-law, Marcus (Katherine), Center; his two sisters, Pauline Esselman, Oskosh, Wis., and O'Dea Light, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; in addition bothers and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Steve) Miller, Monica McDonald, Helen (Dale) Ivestor, Clara Schaff, Irene (Ralph) Kautzman, Nick Zander and Marcus (Mary) Zander, Bridget Zander and Agnes DeBuryn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son; sisters, Monica, Clementine, Perpetua, Minnie, Rose, Bertha and Matilda; and his brothers, John, Christ, Joseph and Ralph.
