Deceased Name: MICHEL, MELVIN M.
A resident of Baton Rouge, he died Friday evening, June 11, 1999, at his home. He was 68 and a native of Jackson, Miss. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. and a wake service at 8:30 p.m. Vis-iting at St. George Catholic Church, 10064 Kinglet Drive, after 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday, celebrated by the Rev. Thomas C. Ranzino. Burial in the church cemetery. He was a well-known Baton Rouge businessman and was active in civic work and in his church for 49 years. He received numerous national and industry awards in the insurance and securities industries. He was the founder and president of Professional Asset Management Corp. and St . Louis Management Corp. He was a past president of the Jaycees, the University of Mississippi Alumni Association and the 6th Congressional District Republican Party. He was a co-captain at Manresa Retreat House for 30 years and served on numerous churchboards. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the vice-commander of Alhambra and was an investee of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher. He is survived by his wife, Jean Weinand Michel; seven children, Elizabeth Michel, Pamela Chavez, Marjorie Derby, Aimee Michel, Delaune Michel, Carol Culbertson and Sam Rovik; two sisters, Margaret Head and Marilyn Anderson; two brothers, J. Walter and Calvin Michel; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Michael Burch, Clement Cornay, Bill Crull, Phil Hebert, Gordon McKennon, Sheldon Blue, Bob Culbertson and John Selleck. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie McClure, Dr. Vince Lagattuta, Dr. Glenn Schnexnayder, Bill Tinsler, Dr. Kean Day, Carl Hancock, Dr. Bob Muller and Charles Shamel. Memorial donations may be sent to Manresa House of Retreats, P.O. Box 89, Convent, LA 70723-0089.
