He was born June 9, 1927, in Napoleon, N.D. Named after his father, he grew up with 25 brothers and sisters. August was educated in Napoleon. He came to Hardin to visit his uncle in 1950 and stayed. While working at Sawyer's Grocery Store, August met Lorraine Heine. Two years later, August and Lorraine married and, within months, he was drafted into the army. August and Lorraine raised their children, Rodell, Renae and DeLaine, in Hardin and, after working for Safeway 35 years, he retired. His parents, six sisters and six brothers preceded him in death. August is survived by his wife of 56 years; his children, Rodell and Diane Lachenmeier, Renae and Paul McVeigh, DeLaine and Gary Khan; the grandchildren, Christopher Lachenmeier, Raleigh and Annie Kraft, Ethan and Allison Khan; and a great-granddaughter Ruby Lachenmeier. Interment with military honors will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
