Floyd Nuss
TRIPP — Floyd E. Nuss, 72, Tripp, died Friday (March 29, 2002) at Avera St. Benedict Hospital, Parkston.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Frieden's Reformed United Church of Christ, with Rev. Greg Way officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by Tripp American Legion Post No. 142.
Pallbearers are Robert F. Nuss, Don Schmoll, Joel Wudel, Tom Konrad, David Wildermuth and John Konrad.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1929, to Eugene A. and Lydia (Fuhrer) Nuss at Tripp. He was baptized and confirmed in Frieden's Reformed Church. He attended grade school and graduated from Tripp High School in 1947. As a teenager, he worked at various small jobs, selling popcorn at the Idle Hour Theater, Rivin Brothers and setting bowling pins. After graduation, he worked at Conoco Oil for E.A. Mikuska. He married Marlene Konrad at Scotland, Jan. 9, 1951. In 1951, he was drafted into the Marine Corps and returned from the Philippines in 1953. He worked for the South Dakota Highway Department from 1954 until 1962, and then became manager of the Sport Bowl. Floyd became Chief of Police for the town of Tripp in 1971 until his retirement in 1991. He drove school bus for Tripp-Delmont Schools since 1972.
He was a member of the Tripp American Legion Post 142. His pastimes included pheasant hunting, fishing and enjoying school activities. He had a special passion for his hometown of Tripp and was active in the American Legion Post. He held many positions and was proud of his many years as a firing squad member.
His favorite activities were visiting and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene, Tripp; three children: Renee (James) Marsh, Ft. Pierre; Robert (Suk) Nuss, Brandon; and Richard (Terrina) Nuss, Baltimore, Md.; nine grandchildren; two sisters: Bernice Taylor, Parkston; and Phyllis Schmoll, Rapid City; and his mother-in-law, Helma Konrad; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two infant brothers and one infant sister.
