OBITUARY: Bob Karst
Robert Joseph "Bob" Karst, 79, died at his home in Richfield June 6, 2001, of lung cancer. He was born May 19, 1922, in Great Falls, Mont., a son of Charles Joseph and Nelle Evelyn Clack Karst. He attended schools in Great Falls, Mont. Bob served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army Infantry in the European Theatre. He married Helen Ackeroyd. They were later divorced. He married Deon Whitaker; later divorced. He married Liz Orr; later divorced. He married Maureen Madsen Beutler Jan. 20, 1979, in Elko, Nev., in a double-ring ceremony along with their good friends, Glen and Shirley Gardner. Bob lived in Salt Lake City and worked at Christensen Diamond and Sperry-Univac as a maintenance supervisor, where he cherished many friendships. He retired in 1981 and he and Maureen moved to Richfield. Bob loved living in the small community of Richfield, where he enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, reading and golf, until his health no longer permitted. He was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by his wife, Maureen, Richfield; daughter, Diana M. (Chuck) Pohlen, Milwaukee, Wisc.; son-in-law, Duane Ehnot, Georgetown, Texas; stepdaughter, Glenna V. (Gerry) Mickelsen, Salina; stepson, Russell Whitaker, Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Karst and Richard Karst, and a daughter, Sharon L. Ehnot. The family extends special thanks to the many doctors, nurses and technicians for their extraordinary services to Bob over the past 15 years. A special thanks to LaNetta Sudweeks, Joan Grimlie and the staff at Hospice of Richfield for their generous attention. Friends may visit Wednesday evening, June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. with the family at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of IHC, 70 East 1100 North, Suite B, in Richfield, Utah 84701, in memory of Bob Karst.
