Ashley, ND-Funeral service for Wilbert C. Opp, 87, of Ashley will be 10:30 am, Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Ashley Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill Damberg will officiate.
Burial will be in Ashley City Cemetery.
There will be a prayer service Wednesday at 6 pm with visitation from 3-6 pm at the funeral home.
Wilbert died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Ashley Medical Center.
Wilbert C. Opp was born in McPherson County, SD on March 6, 1925 to Christian and Lydia (Lautt) Opp. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized on November 21, 1937 by Rev. W.J. Luebeck in the Ashley Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his death. He served the church for many years including clerk and deacon. He also served the community as a member of the Ashley School Board, a member of the Ashley Medical Board of Directors and as an alderman on the Ashley City Council.
On June 19, 1951 he married LouElla Hoffman at the Ashley Baptist Church. They made their home in Ashley during all of their married life. His education included Ashley High School, Normal and Industrial College of Ellendale, ND and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL. He operated a radio and TV sales and service shop in Ashley for about 20 years and later established a farming operation near Long Lake, SD. After retiring from farming in 1988 he enjoyed many hours with his hobbies of wood working and stained glass. Wilbert and LouElla enjoyed traveling together and visited many US states, Israel, Russia, parts of Europe, Alaska and Hawaii. Seventeen winters were spent in south Texas.
Surviving Wilbert is his wife, LouElla of Ashley; their children, Debora (Daryl) Dockter, Watertown, SD and Rev. Steven (Linda) Opp, Lodi, CA; grandchildren, Karoline Bootsma, Nathan and Daryn Dockter, Katherine Harper and Benjamin Opp. Wilbert was pleased to have four great-grandchildren, Carson and Karrie Bootsma, Lydia Dockter and Samuel Harper.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Casketbearers will be Nathan Dockter, Daryn Dockter, Carl Bootsma, Benjamin Opp, Daryl Dockter and Karoline Bootsma.
The organist will be Jean Schnabel, The Ashley Baptist Church Men's Quartet will sing and Benjamin Opp will play the saxophone.
The family prefers memorials to the Ashley Baptist Church Endowment Fund.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
