Aylene Enders, 97
Aylene A. Enders went to her heavenly resting place on May 4, 2013. She was born May 31, 1915 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to William and Grace Arehart. She had one older sister, Audrey, and one younger brother, Monty. Aylene lived her entire lifetime in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; she only had one zipcode, 83814. She grew up in several homes in downtown CDA on 4th, 7th and 5th Street. During her childhood, she worked at her family's furniture store, Arehart's Second Hand, on 4th Street. She graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School 1933 (off 7th Street) and was part of stunt team, glee club, madrigal and basketball all four years. She attended NIJC (CDA) and received her AA Degree and then went onto Whitney Business College (located off Sherman Avenue in CDA) where she received her 2 year certificate for secretarial studies. She married Fred A. Enders, of CDA, on May 8, 1936. They bought their first home on 415 Wallace in 1936. She raised her family at 815 5th Street. She lived out her retirement years at Heritage Place in Coeur d'Alene.
After graduating from college she first worked for the City of Coeur d'Alene and was secretary to Mayor Grantum and the City Treasurer. As her children became school aged, she started working for JC Penney's (on Sherman Avenue) in the baby department, where she worked for 10 years. She retired from Dingle's True Value Hardware (now Sports Cellar on Sherman Avenue) after selling small appliances for Mr. Dingle; she worked there for 25 years.
She is most well-known for walking the streets of Coeur d'Alene (in her retirement) with her husband, Fred, and dog, Chuggy; where they picked up cans and got in their daily exercise. She always said hello, gave a smile and a helping hand. She died a very proud local resident.
Among Aylene's greatest accomplishments were being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, where her nurturing, loving, and supportive ways shined. She was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed by her family and those who loved her and those who were honored to know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Enders (CDA); her son, Fred W. Enders (CDA); and her daughter, Dianne K. Reid (CDA). She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joe and Deanna Villegas (Austin, TX); her daughter-in-law, Chong Enders (CDA); her sister-in-law, Jean Arehart (Edmond, WA); her son-in-law, Donald Reid II (CDA); and her 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friady, May 10, 2013, at Forest Cemetery, 1032 Government Way, Coeur d Alene with Yates Funeral Home Coeur d'Alene in care of the arrangements. All those that loved her are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Aylene may be made to LaCrosse Health and Rehab, 210 West LaCrosse, Coeur d Alene, Idaho 83814, who took extraordinary and loving care of Aylene during the last year of her life.
