FARGO — Alan L. Wahl, Fargo, formerly of McClusky and Hazen, died Dec. 26, 2010, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo. Services were held on Dec. 29 at the Larson Chapel of Bethany on 42nd, Fargo. A memorial service in Beulah is planned as is Alan's burial in the McClusky Cemetery.
Alan Lyle Wahl was born Sept. 15, 1925, to Daniel and Sophia (Schatz) Wahl on the family farm near McClusky. He attended school in McClusky as well as the Christian Training Institute in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He returned to the family farm, and continued to farm until his retirement in 1995.
On Dec. 19, 1954, Alan married Vera Zimbelman. Together, they raised four children: daughters, Marietta, Rebekah and Lanae, and son, Brent.
Alan loved teaching and studying his Bible. More than one Bible was worn through as a result of his hours of studying and sharing the Word. He was actively involved in any church he attended as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and church moderator. Alan was also a strong advocate for North Dakota children with multiple handicaps. He served on the board of directors of the N.D. Parents of Deaf Blind Children as well as on the Board of the Helen Keller Institute.
Anyone meeting Alan for the first time would be certain to hear the phrase, "Did you hear the one about?" Alan loved a good joke or story; and never seemed to run out of material. He enjoyed traveling, making new friends, working crossword puzzles, eating corn flakes for breakfast and above all spending time with his family.
Grateful and honored to have shared Alan's life are his wife of 56 years, Vera, Fargo; and his children, Marietta, West Fargo, Rebekah (the Rev. Jeff) Meyers, Cedarville, Mich., Brent, Bismarck, and Lanae (John) Doiron, Savage, Minn. Alan loved and took great pride in his four grandchildren, Clayton and Janaan Meyers and Joe and Nick Doiron. He is also survived by brothers, Loren (Ruth), Seattle, and Robert (Fran), Canon City, Colo.; sister-in-law, Bessie Wahl, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews
