Family Tribute
Raymond Jay Jr. (1939-2011)
"Remembering Ray"
A Memorial Classic Car Cruise-in will be on Friday night, September 23rd at 5:30 p.m. at Graffiti Alley, 675 River Road, Eugene, OR.
Raymond Eugene Jay, Jr. died September 7, 2011. Known as Ray, Ray-J or Skipper to friends & family, he will be honored this Friday night with hot rods & classics. There will be a DJ and "open mike" testimony honoring Ray for those wanting to speak.
Ray was active in setup and running the River Road Cruise-In popular hot rod event for 14 years running until its demise. Ray was always there to help with parking and registration, not to mention setup and arrangements for the weeks and months prior. He never asked for anything in return and brought his personal network of family and friends to help. Ray always had a custom classic car to drive on special occasions.
After the passing of his wife in 1997, Ray became very active in nostalgic drag racing throughout the northwest traveling to many tracks in Oregon, Washington, Canada, Idaho and Nevada. Ray was very recognizable by the racing and cruising participants at these events.
Ray worked for Mac's Batteries, a locally owned business for a number of years in Outside Sales calling on industries such as construction, mills and logging throughout the state. He later worked as an independent contractor as Mr. Fix-It and Locksmith for the Key Bank that his wife Donna worked for.
Ray also maintained and kept a records warehouse for the Oregon Medical Group (OMG), and was loved and respected by the doctors, nurses and associates within the organization. Ray was very sharp and skilled in many areas and was recently proclaimed as "The Original McGiver".
"Skipper" is survived by his daughter Judy Gould and husband John; grandsons Jesse and Garrett Gould; and great-grandson Caiden Gould.
A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, September 24th, 11:30am at Briarwood Community Clubhouse, 4800 Barger Dr. in Eugene.
