Annie A. Kuntz, 91, Mandan, died Oct. 5, 2014, at Sanford on Sunset Care Center, Mandan. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a rosary/parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Annie was born Sept. 25, 1923, to Adam and Agnes (Hoffman) Bender in St. Anthony. She was raised and educated in the St. Anthony area. Annie married Joe Kuntz on Jan. 12, 1943, in St. Anthony. Annie worked hard all her life, first on the family farm then at the age of 15, she started cooking lunches for the rural elementary schools at home and deliver them to the schools daily. She owned and operated the Junction Inn in Solen from 1957-2006. She catered many large weddings while at the Junction Inn and she was very proud of her recipes and they were all prepared with her ever present loving and caring touch.
Annie had a remarkable memory for major events especially weddings, she could tell you the people’s wedding date and their family history. She was a kind and loving woman and treated all people as her special guest. She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing board games along with tending her flower gardens.
Annie will be deeply missed by her daughters, Rachel Gaab, Richardton, and Vanessa (John) Barnhard, Mandan; her sons, Joe Jr. (Lila), Solen, and Vernon (Pamela), Mandan; 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Leingang, Mandan; and two brothers, Joe (Theresa) Bender and Frank (Pat) Bender, both of Salem, Ore.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe, in 1982; two sons, Ervin and Kenneth; one son-in-law, Clem Gaab; two sisters, Josephine and Cecelia; and two brothers, Edward and Fred.
