STEELE — Rose J. Stockert, 78, Steele, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving husband and daughter under the care of Medcenter One Hospice. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at St. Francis de Sales Church, Steele, with the Rev. Jerome Hunkler and Deacon Bob Stockert as celebrant. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis de Sales Church with a evening prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.
Rose (Binstock) Stockert was born Dec. 13, 1931, to Frank and Rose (Faiman) Binstock. She attended school in Dunn and Stark County. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson.
She married Van Stockert on Oct. 3, 1949 in Amidon. They farmed in Slope County, in 1954 they bought a farm north of Steele where they farmed and ranched. Rose enjoyed raising chickens and geese, her flower and vegetable gardens, and canning vegetables for the winter. They moved to Steele in 1974.
Rose was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidering, making quilts for her children and grandchildren, playing cards, games, laughing and telling jokes. She especially enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always making sure that everyone was entertained and having fun and of course, having enough to eat.
Rose is survived by her husband, Van, Steele; four children, Darrell (Sandy) Stockert, Dickinson, Maynard (Sheri) Stockert, Alva, Okla., Janel (Randy) Brousseau, Steele, and Ken (Yvonne) Stockert, Dickinson; 12 grandchildren; one step-grandson; 12 great-grandchildren; and she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of two more great-grandchildren this spring; four sisters, Anna Bren, Minnie Roller and Justine Wanner, all of Dickinson, and Veronica Billman, Billings, Mont.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandsons, Joshua Stockert and Brian Stockert; three brothers, Albert, Anton and Edward; and two sisters, Christine Wanner and Helen Roller.
