Eleanor A. Stockert

Eleanor A. Stockert, 89, Dickinson, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Eleanor’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant, and assisted by Deacon Ralph Stockert. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary and Vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding.
Eleanor Ann (Thomas) Stockert was the seventh child of ten children born to Adam and Melchina (Hoerner) Thomas. She was born January 9, 1924 on the family farm south of Glen Ullin. She was raised and educated in Glen Ullin area.
Eleanor married Leo George Stockert of Amidon, on February 18, 1946 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Glen Ullin and to this union nine children were born. Shortly after their marriage they left for Eugene, Ore. for a period of time returning later to Amidon, to the Stockert family farm until 1958, then moved the family south of Dickinson and farmed together until retirement. Eleanor was very busy raising their four sons and five daughters. She enjoyed baking, working in her vegetable and flower garden, canning, sewing, patching, driving truck, butchering chickens all before or after milking the cows and cleaning the house. Every holiday, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, special birthdays, she filled the house with good food, family and friends. Eleanor was a beloved mom, mother-in-law, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and friend. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. She loved to play pinochle and taught her children and grand children to play as young as 5. Eleanor loved to entertain and welcomed many friends, nieces and nephews to their home to visit or play cards. She was “MOM” and “GRANDMA” to many more than just her immediate family.
After retirement in 1979, Leo and Eleanor enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling, dancing, gardening, reading, playing cards and watching Twins baseball. Eleanor was involved and active in many church and community activities and events: such as 4-H and Farmers Union, St. Ann’s Altar Society, Christian Mothers, St. Pius Verein, St. Anthony Club and The Eagles Auxiliary.
Eleanor is survived by her loving husband Leo, of 67 years, seven children: Charlotte (Gene) Kautzmann, Eloy, Ariz., Kathie (Fred) Tooz, Dickinson, Karen (Ray) Novotny, Dickinson, Leon Stockert, Minneapolis, Minn., John (Nancy) Stockert, Dickinson, LaVonne Stockert, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Michael Stockert, Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Laurie Privratsky (Cedric) McCulloch, Melinda Privratsky (Dave) Cuevas, Justine (Nozomy) Privratsky, Troy (Kathleen) Tooz, Todd (Laura) Tooz, Tracy (Nichole) Tooz, TJ Tooz, Casey (Joette) Novotny, Torey Stockert, Haylea Stockert, Michael (Tori) and Mitchel Stockert; four step-grandchildren, Brock Davis, Tracey Voulgarakis, Sarah (Jason) Leucuta, and Jamie Kautzmann; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. Her sisters include, Gertrude Thomas and Helen (John) Bechtold, Glen Ullin.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one daughter Carol Ann; one son Daryl missing since 1990; grandsons Ryan Privratsky and Benjamin Novotny; and one step-granddaughter, Toni Kautzmann. Also four brothers, John, Marcus, Nick and Joe Thomas; and three sisters, Irene, Eva, Clementine.
She was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed very much by all who knew her.
