View Sign Weisend Ausma Skerbele Weisend, 84, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on August 29, 2014. She was born in 1929 in Latvia to the late Janis and Marta Skerbele. In 1950 Ausma and her family moved to Michigan as WWII displaced persons. She earned a BS degree at Western Michigan and her PhD's in Physical Chemistry and German at OSU. She worked as a chemist for G. E. Flight Propulsion and later as a Fellow Chemical Physicist at Mellon Institute. She had numerous articles published in the Journal of Chemical Physics. Ausma was a lifelong lover of books, pets and music. She enjoyed working in her garden and creating jewelry. Ausma is preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles R. Weisend. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Michael) Burgess of Powell, Oh and Sheila (Dan) Gurovich of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mi.; a sister, Dzintra (Arturs) Kalnins of Bethleham, PA; three grandchildren, Darren (Katsumi Takayama) Burgess, Daniel (Beth) Burgess, Kira Gurovich; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Memorial Service 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at SOUTHWICK-GOOD & FORTKAMP FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3100 N. High St. Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Rev.
