Bio: John William Stimpert, 88, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 1:10 a.m. at St. Catherine's Manor of Washington Court House where he had been a patient since November 3. John was born May 1, 1928, at Lewisville in Monroe County, Ohio to Elmer R. and Cora Anderson Stimpert. He was a 1946 graduate of Lewisville High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Okinawa, Japan until 1949. He worked his way through college at The Ohio State University, graduating in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in agricultural education. John began his vocational agriculture teaching career in Johnstown, Ohio. He taught for nine years and had a positive impact on many students during that time. Working with others, he led several improvements at the Hartford Fair in Croton, Ohio. Following his teaching career, he moved his family to Washington Court House in 1965, to take an agribusiness position with Chevron Chemical Company. He retired from Chevron in 1986, with recognitions for his achievements. He capped his agribusiness career working for Mid-Ohio Chemical until 1991. John was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, serving on many committees and assisting with a number of different projects over the years. He was also an active member of the Good Hope Lions Club. He helped manage the Good Hope Lions Candy Store for many years. He was named a Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated humanitarian service by the Lions Club International Foundation in 2003. He was a member of the Fayette County Commission on Aging; The Ohio State University Alumni Association and the Fayette County Farm Bureau. He played an instrumental role in establishing the local farmers' market. John loved gardening, golfing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Donald, Richard and Robert Stimpert and a sister, Ruth Wittenbrook. John is survived by his wife, the former Marilyn E. Miracle whom he married September 23, 1950; a son and A daughter and five grandchildren.The funeral will be Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 12 p.m. Noon at the Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mick Whistler, pastor at the church and Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation, officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Fayette County, Inc., 222 North Oakland Avenue or the Fayette County Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1430 Columbus Avenue, Washington Court House, Ohio 43160.
