Scales Mound, Ill.
Florence Mary Huilman, 94, of Scales Mound, died at 2:12 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community.
Mrs. Huilman was born on Jan. 23, 1915, in Thompson Township of Jo Daviess County, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Waldschmitt) Stephan.
She married William H. Huilman on June 10, 1942, at Holy Trinity Church.
Mr. Huilman died on June 27, 1983.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society, where she held many offices. Florence attended Thompson School. She had a large garden and a large flower garden. She was known around Galena and Scales Mound as the “Egg Lady.” She loved visiting with family and friends.
Surviving are three sons, John (Dianne) Huilman of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Charles (Marian “Mim”) Huilman, Platteville, Wis., and James Huilman, Scales Mound; two daughters, Mary (Robert) Soat of Galena, and Dorothy Huilman of Scales Mound; seven grandchildren, Terry (Angela) Soat, Brian (Rebecca) Ropers-Huilman, Chad (Shauna) Huilman, John (Tammy) Huilman, Krista Weidman, Kevin (Patricia) Huilman, and Alex Huilman; nine great grandchildren, Amanda, Trisha, Jessica and Samantha Soat, Anson and Aaron Ropers-Huilman and Kyra, and Sawyer Weidman, and Hazel Huilman; one brother, Joseph (Lorraine) Stephan of Dyersville, Iowa; one sister, Loretta Upmann of Stockton; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Stephan; a sister, Pearl Stephan; a brother-in-law, William Upmann, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Stephan and Margaret Stephan; a grandson-in-law, Ryan Weidman; and a nephew, William (Diane) Upmann, Jr.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound, where the parish rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009. A memorial services is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound, with the Rev. Chris Kuhn officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community and Heartland Hospice for the special care given to Florence.
