Mandan Union Cemetery. Veronica Schafer Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church today. Veronica was born May 26, 1912, in Shefield, to Stanislaus and Florentine (Mosbrucker) Olheiser. She was raised and educated in Blue Grass. In 1937, she married Jack Wetsch in New Salem. Together they raised three children. Veronica and Jack farmed for a few years, they then moved to Stanton, and then to Mandan. Jack died in October 1959. On May 25, 1963, she married Valentine Schafer in Mandan. Veronica worked at Cloverdale Foods for 21 years and retired in 1975. Valentine died on Sept. 1, 1999. Veronica was outgoing and had many friends. In her lifetime she experienced many hardships and even through all of that she kept a positive attitude and a matter of fact approach. She appreciated the simple things in life such as beautiful trees, blue skies and all of what nature offered. Many hours were spent making different crafts, but what stands out most are her beautiful crafted crosses which she gave to all of her children and grandchildren and many friends. Through the years those who have had the good fortune to receive a cross have a reminder of Veronica's generous spirit For all of us, she leases alegacy of her strength,; courage, faith in Gqd, love, jirjcriedication to her family. Veronica will be greatly missed by her sons, Dave (friend, Deloris) Wetsch and Jim (Jean) Wetsch, both of Mandan, and George "Butch" (Janice) Wetsch, Bismarck; her stepdaughters, Johanna (Marvin) Olson, Max, Josephine (Matt) Erhardt, Center, Edith (Jim) Hellman, West Fargo, and Pauline (Art) Hellman, Glen Ullin; and 104 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Jack and Valentine; her granddaughter, Joan Baumann; her sisters, Elizabeth and Magdalina; and her brothers, Florian, Matt, John and George.
