- [S927] Obituary.
oan (Joni) Mannix Neckerman passed suddenly on June 4, 2010 in Camarillo from kidney failure and related complications.
Joni was born in Los Angeles in 1933 and grew up in Eagle Rock where she was senior class historian at the local high school. She graduated from the University of Southern California's School of Journalism, was Daily Trojan women's editor and became a byline writer for the Los Angeles Examiner and Seattle Post-Intelligencer. In later years she was a technical editor/writer for PRC and other Ventura County firms.
She moved to Camarillo in 1983 and later resided in Leisure Village, where she was active in Senior Active Singles and other activities. A dedicated swimmer who loved our California sunshine, she courageously trained herself to return to swimming following various health setbacks. Joni was beloved by her friends for her great sense of humor, her uncanny ability to lead them to the best local shopping sales and her interest in whatever was important to them at the time.
Joni is survived by her son, Lt Col Mike Neckerman, USAF stationed in Tucson, who visited often; her sister, Pat Calhoun of Littleton, Colo.; and her cat David. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, J. Glenn Neckerman.
At her request, there will be no formal services. Cremation is planned.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
Arthritis Foundation
