- OBITUARY: From the Huntington Herald Press Online, May 17, 2000John O. Miller, 73, Decatur, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday (May 16, 2000) at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. Death followed an extended illness. Mr. Miller was retired from the Schafer Glove Co., where he was a leather cutter. He had also been employed as a truck driver by Shafer Hardware. He was an Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of Private First Class in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of American Legion Post 43. Mr. Miller was born April 30, 1927, in Adams County, to Otto Miller and Rose Spangler Miller. He married Alice E. Eisenhauer in May 1949. His wife died Feb. 9. Survivors include two sons, James Miller, Las Vegas, Nev., and Nick Miller, Decatur; a daughter, Christene Miller, Bluffton; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Vera Burnett, Monroeville, and Sister Rose Andrea Miller, Plymouth. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Decatur. Father Phil DeVolder will officiate at the services. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur. Military graveside services will be performed. Calling will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. The rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the donor?s choice.
