  [S927] Obituary. Michael Arthur Bender, 58, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, in Norman surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 1825 46th St., Mandan, N.D. He was born Aug. 29, 1953, in Bismarck, N.D., to Arthur and Bertha Bender. He was united in marriage on April 21, 1984, to Gail Ann Lacher in Fargo, N.D. He graduated from Bismarck High School and later joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in January of 1977 and joined the Department of Commerce as a meteorologist, retiring in 2010 after 33 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, taking walks, going to the gym and working on his computer. Michael was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Bender, and stepbrother, Jon Grossman. He is survived by his wife, Gail of the home; his mother, Bertha Bender Myers of Bismarck, N.D.; one daughter, Jessica Bender and her boyfriend GW Dennison of Norman; and one stepsister, Carrie Grossman of Bismarck, N.D.
