Marvin T. Preszler, 82, Hosmer, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Golden Living Center of Ipswich. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Hosmer Reformed Church with Rev. David Dawn leading the service. Burial, with military graveside rites by the Adolph Forkel American Legion Post No. 189, Hosmer, SD follows at the Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer. Organist will be Michelle Grossmann and vocalists will be the Prairie Harmony Singers. Ushers will be LeRoy Neifer and Ray Jung.
Visitation begins 5:00 P.M. Tuesday with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at Lien Funeral Home in Bowdle.
Marvin Theodore Preszler, son of Helen (Krein) and Reinhold Preszler, was born at the Preszler farm 4 ½ miles SE of Hosmer on August 8, 1932. Marvin was brought up SE of Hosmer and received his formal education at the SW Sangamon TWSHP District #6 Rural School. Following his schooling, he helped on his parents' farm. Marvin served his country in the United States Army, being inducted September 10, 1953. Following his honorable discharge on August 23, 1955, he returned to the farm. Marvin married Norma Schaible at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hosmer on October 21, 1956. They first rented a farm seven miles south and one mile east of Hosmer. In 1964 they purchased the Christ Bauer farm 4 ½ miles SE of Hosmer. This farm was earlier owned by Marvin’s grandfather. Marvin lived the rest of his life on the farm. He was baptized and confirmed member of the Hosmer Reformed Church and served on the Church Board. He also served on the Hosmer Cenex Board, belonged to the American Legion Post No. 189, Hosmer, SD and was on the Sangamon Township Board. Marvin took great pride in his Hereford cattle and enjoyed making hay for them. He also liked to ride horses and read historical westerns. His dog and loyal companion, Buster brought him a lot of happiness. Marvin was a selfless, hardworking father who was always willing to help his children in any way that he could. He was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by two sons, Chad (Dawn) Preszler of Hosmer and Jason (Heidi) Preszler of Roscoe, SD; four daughters, Londa (Mathew) Malsom of Roscoe, Darcy (Keith) Kramlich and Lisa (Rick) Rau both of Eureka, SD, and Stacy (Tim) Hoffer of Laramie, WY; one brother Harry Preszler of Hosmer; one sister Luella Schumacher of Rapid City, SD; 16 grandchildren, Kevin (Jenna) Malsom and Tim Malsom of Roscoe, Reed (Andrea) Rau of Orange City, Iowa, Landon and Colton Hoffer of Laramie, WY, Amanda (Bill) Schaefer of Hoven, SD, Kari (Mathew) Wolff of Oak Grove, MN, Kelly (TJ) Serr of Aberdeen, SD, Kristen Kramlich of St. Louis, MO, Heather (Jordan) Mehlhaff and Nicole and Layne Rau of Eureka, Alexandra, Nathan, and Kaitlyn Preszler of Roscoe, and Aidan Preszler of Hosmer; and three great-grandchildren, Calvin and Cora Wolff and Eric Schaefer.
He was preceded in death by his father on May 26, 1980, his mother on June 25, 1969, his wife, Norma, on March 19, 2013, one sister (Irene Benson), and three brothers-Floyd, in infancy, and twins Ray and Roy.
Casketbearers will be Marvin's grandsons.
