BEULAH — Berniece Scheid, 72, Beulah, died Feb. 5, 2012, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Services will be held at 2 p.m. CST Friday, Feb. 10, at the Beulah Congregational Church, Beulah, with the Rev. John Fanella officiating. Burial will follow at the Beulah City Cemetery.
Berniece was born on March 5, 1939, at a farm north of Beulah to Albert and Bertha (Oberlander) Boeckel. She attended rural school and helped out on the farm. In 1960, she moved to Bismarck. Berniece worked at the Bismarck Hospital for a time. She then moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. She returned to Bismarck and worked at Eddie's Bakery, The Big Boy, Red Owl, St. Alexius Hospital and Dan's Super Value.
On March 26, 1964, she married Herbert Winkler. He passed away on Aug. 29, 1975. She continued to live in Beulah with her children Randy and Bruce Winkler. On June 17, 1977, she married Reuben C. Scheid of Hazen.
Berniece enjoyed crocheting, making rugs, collecting bells, but her favorite hobby was genealogy. She met lots of relatives by doing this and also made several family history books. Berniece received the 1st place award out of 17 entries from the Germans from Russia Historical Society.
Berniece was a victim of diphtheria at the age of 3. She claimed the biggest mistake of her life was a tonsillectomy in 1991, when her physical health became a struggle. She leaned on God for her spiritual strength, taking life one day at a time.
She is survived by her husband, Reuben Scheid, Hazen; two sons, Randy (Betty) Winkler, Hermiston, Ore., and Bruce (Lynn) Winkler, Hazen; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Steven Winkler, Hermiston, Ore., Nicholas, Bismarck, and Savannah, Jessica, Weston and Daniel, all of Hazen; great-grandchildren, Heather, Caleb and Parker Jo Winkler, all of Hermiston, Ore.; one step-great-grandchild, Jude Royer; one brother, Albert (Alice) Boeckel Jr.; her sisters, Elaine Walker, Zap, Doris Beckman, Emmett, Idaho, Hilma (Leo) Curtis, Spokane, Wash., Loretta (Earl) Campio, Ontario, Calif.
Berniece was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Herbert Winkler; her sister, Violet (Johnny) Neubauer; her brothers-in-law, Victor Walker, Paul Beckman and Herbert Hart; her parents-in-law, Eva and Albert Winkler and Hilda and Art Scheid.
