JAMESTOWN — Della J. Leapaldt, 77, Jamestown, died Feb. 12, 2014, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Thomas Eckstein officiating. Burial will be at Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, where a prayer service begins at 8 p.m.
Della J. Oberlander was born June 2, 1936, in Medina, the daughter of Samuel and Clara (Schlaht) Oberlander. She attended Medina High School, where she graduated in 1954 as valedictorian. Della married Alvin Leapaldt on March 13, 1955. They moved to Jamestown, where Della worked at the ASCS office and later for Harold Rene CPA, before becoming vice-president of Leapaldt Construction, Inc., until her retirement.
Della was very active in Concordia Lutheran Church, singing in the choir and teaching confirmation classes, along with visiting shut-ins and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was also very involved in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League holding numerous leadership positions.
In her leisure time, Della enjoyed sewing, reading, crafts, working in her garden and yard and vegetable canning with her mother each fall. She also loved singing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Della is survived by her four children, David (Julie) Leapaldt, St. Cloud, Minn., Kathryn (Steven) Bietz, Bismarck, Denise (Dan) Leapaldt-Johnson, Wilton, and Joel Leapaldt, Bismarck; 14 grandchildren, Megan, Kristen, Samuel, Grace, Gretchen, Katie, Jack, Talia, Tanika, Tareena, Tienna, Tucker, Tyre and Madeline; and three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Kaelynn and Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; one daughter-in-law, Teressa Leapaldt; and one sister, Doris Wilke.
