Donald Dale Oberlander, 78, Cleveland, N.D., died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at his home.
Mr. Oberlander was born June 1, 1932, in Medina, N.D., the son of Emil and Emma (Dockter) Oberlander. He grew up and attended Streeter schools. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1952. He was stationed in San Diego, Calif. The family moved to South Dakota and he entered the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in 1961 for medical reasons. He returned to North Dakota. He worked for the Stutsman County Road Department for more than 29 years before retiring. He was a member of the National Rifle Association for more than 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and drawing.
He is survived by a brother, Gary (Sue), Mandan, N.D.; and a sister, Bernice Schaffer, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Marvin.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. today, Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, in the spring.
