Howard H. Goehring, 87 of Deadwood, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital in Deadwood.
Howard was born July 11, 1919 on the family farm at Roscoe, SD, the son of John and Martha Maish. He attended school in Hosmer and worked on the family farm for a time, then entered the CC Camp and worked in the Sturgis, Roubaix and Lead-Deadwood area.
On December 27, 1955 he married Anna Verona Voegele in Aberdeen, SD. They moved to Lead in 1955 where Howard began work at the Homestake Gold Mine where he worked as a miner and at the sawmill, retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed tinkering with woodwork, making wood toys and doing car repairs. He loved remodeling.
He was a loving father and grandfather. He was wise with his wisdom when asked for advice by his children. He always taught his children to have a positive attitude. Howard helped others with whatever needed to be done. He was handicapped for many years but he never let it slow him down.
He survived by his wife, Anna, of Deadwood and his daughters; Gloria Niesant, Rapid City, SD, Sharon and James Bashor, Custer, SD, Sharlene and Rodney Nelson, Lead, SD, and Melody and Don Kleinheksel of Lead, SD, three brothers; Milbert Goehring, Bell Flower, CA, Jerry Goehring, Carson City, NV and Jim Goerhing, Simi Valley, CA; three sisters, Cindy Shutz, Eureka, SD, Winnie and Alan Gab, Bowdle, SD and Jeannie and John Larson, Wetonka, SD, eight grandchildren, one step grandchild and one step great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the Aldinger Lead-Deadwood Funeral Chapel in Lead with Rev. Dennis Craiger officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Deadwood.
The Aldinger Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Spearfish has been entrusted with the arrangements.
