  [S927] Obituary. BENDER (BETTGER), Loretta N. Loretta N. Bender, 89, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, went home to be with her Lord on Jan. 7, 1997. Loretta was born May 22, 1907, at McClusky, the daughter of John and Martha (Alexander) Bettger. She married John Bender on Nov. 1, 1933, in McClusky. They lived at McClusky since their marriage and moved to Bismarck in 1959. Loretta was well known for her quilting skills and her excellent German cooking. John died Nov. 4, 1995. Loretta is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Dwaine Helm, Washburn; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert ``Bob'' and Marlene Bender, and Donald and Lorna Bender, all of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Kevin Scott Bender, Twila Beasley, Todd Helm and Monica Bender; and two great-grandchildren. The family prefers memorials to Missouri Slope Health Care Center or First Baptist Church, Bismarck. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Wisthoff officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
