Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 28, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Rich, wonderful husband, father, brother, son and hero passed away on June 24, 2010, at Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer after a hard-fought, courageous battle with cancer, a diagnosis that he waged war against right up until his last breath. Richard (“Rich” or “Rick”) Jerome Hartman was born in Dickinson, ND, to Jerome and Isabelle (Roshau) Hartman on August 24, 1949. Rich graduated with the Class of 1967 from Killdeer High School and was proud of his accomplishments as a football player, where he received all conference honors. On August 24, 1974, he married his soul mate, Pam (Bruce) Hartman in Glasgow, MT, where they lived for a short time. From there, they moved to Williston, ND, where Rich worked for Go Line Well Services. In 1978, their next move was to Killdeer, ND, where he ranched and farmed with his dad and also worked in the oil fields for Chevron. After retiring from ranching and farming, Rich worked for Petro Hunt until his decline in health. Rich was known for his dedication, commitment and loyalty to his community. He served on the Killdeer Fire Department, the Killdeer Lion’s Club and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. His passion was golf, and he served on the Dunn County Golf Association Board where he was a charter member. He was instrumental in getting Killdeer’s golf course built and spent hours out at the course making sure things were done just right! Rich also loved to travel, taking his family on many memorable vacations. Rich will be remembered for his generosity, commitment to helping others, and for being a faithful, loyal friend and family man. There wasn’t a person that Rich met who wasn’t instantly his friend. Sharing in his life are the loves of his life, his wife, Pam, and his children, Kolter, Denver, CO, Kara, Rochester, MN, Jana (fiancé Jamie Kubik), Plymouth, MN, Justin (Kylee), Thornton, CO, and his grandchild, Addy, his mini-me, who meant the world to him. Also loved by him are his mother, Isabelle Hartman, Killdeer, ND; sisters, Jane (Garry) McMahen, Killdeer, ND, Peg (Jim) Longmire, and Lori (Jeff) Binstock; and brothers- and sisters-in-law Mike and Mark (Barb) Bruce and Freda Ike. His beloved uncle Mel and aunt Caroline Kowis spent his last days with him. He also leaves behind his many treasured friends. Preceding him in death were his father, Jerome, and brother, Kent.
