Leo Hartman, 88, Dickinson, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Leo's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding.
Leo Hartman was born February 8, 1924 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dickinson, the son of John and Caroline (Wock) Hartman. He was raised and educated in the Killdeer area, and for a period of time had served with the CCC's.
He was united in marriage to Clementine Haag on November 28, 1944 in Belfield. They have made their home in Dickinson since 1946, where Leo worked 20 years for the Stark County Road Department and 20 years for the Dickinson Street Department.
Leo was a life member of the St. Anthony Club, and the Knights of Columbus. When possible he enjoyed reading, listening to Polka music, visiting family and friends, playing cards and going for coffee.
Leo is survived by his four children, Larry (Nancy) Hartman, Rapid City, S.D., Betty Ann (Roger) Hurinenko, Dickinson, Monica (Curtiss) Forster, Rogers, Minn., and Hilary Hartman, Dickinson; seven grandchildren, Daniel Hurinenko, Jennifer Weixel, Patrick Hurinenko, Joleen (Eric) Click, Kimberly (Chad) Groll, Ashley (David) Larson, and Andrew Hartman; nine great-grandchildren; six siblings, Irene Schmalz, Mohall, Paul (Wanda) Hartman, Billings, Mont., Roy (Cleta) Hartman, Richardton, Florence Schmidt, Dickinson, Frances Keelan, Arvada, Colo., and Caroline (Melvin) Kowis, Broomfield, Colo.; and his in-laws, Jean (Eugene) Stockert, Dickinson, Martin (Evelyn) Haag, Fairfield, Helen Haag, Dickinson, Leo Haag, Dickinson, and Ralph (Beverly) Haag, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clementine on January 8, 2003; his parents; brother, Jerome; five brothers-in-law, Christ Schmalz, Ralph Schmidt, Jim Keelan, Fred Koenig and Edward Haag; two sisters-in-law, Betty Koenig and Florence Haag; and several nieces and nephews.
