Bio: Dolores M. (Schreiber) Adams, 85, formerly of Richardton, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Sanford Health, Bismarck following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's and related health problems. Services were held on Saturday June 25 in Dickson, ND. Interment on Thursday, June 30 at 11am at East Lawn Memorial Park, Sacramento, CA. Born in the fall of 1930, the eldest daughter of Adam and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Schreiber in Richardton, ND. She spent her early years with her family on the farm, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1949. She and her mother Elizabeth learned how to make decorated cakes and confections through the County Extension office and read everything they could on the subject. This was a wonderful help for the local people, as they were only able to have these special treats when they traveled to Dickinson. Dolores also enjoyed spending her time with her many pets and her lifelong love of learning, she enjoyed reading and putting those things into action. In 1961, after many years of working on the farm and creating beautiful cakes and confections for the local people, she ventured west to California with a group of family and friends to a new frontier for her. She made her home in Sacramento, California until her health brought her back to North Dakota in 2008. While in Sacramento she worked for Pacific Bell as an operator and took a position in the bakery with American River College, reviving her love of creating delicious desserts for the students and staff. While at American River, Dolores helped lead the fight for better wages, job security, benefits and retirement, giving the food service industry workers a voice and financial security for their future. Dolores was also active in the Arch-Diocese of the Catholic Church in Sacramento and held many different board positions and participated in special events and conferences. Dolores' summers were consumed with learning and decorating large wedding cakes. After receiving her certification in the Wilton method of cake decorating she went on to teach classes to others for their special occasions. In many circles she became known as the 'cake lady' and created beautiful affordable wedding cakes for bride, who otherwise would not be able to afford such lavish confections. If you had one of her cakes, you knew, they were as delicious as they were beautiful. Many marveled at the amount of engineering that went into these multi-tiered cakes with beautiful adornments and of course a water fountain. Each year she would set aside time to come back and visit her family in North Dakota, enjoying the quiet life of the countryside. In November 1980 she married the love of her life Bernie Ray Adams in Sacramento. Happy to have shared her life with was her sister Rose Renner; nephews: Eugene (Mary) Renner, Patrick (Flo) Renner, and Michael (Cindy) Renner; nieces: Pam (John) DesRoches; Carol (Steve Wennblom) Renner; and Joan Renner, their children as well as numerous extended family members. Preceding her in death were her parents Adam (1965) and Elizabeth (1975); husband Bernie (1997); sister Caroline Renner (2014); nieces Melissa Renner (1961) and Amber DesRoches (2007); brothers-in-law Bill Renner (1987) and Casper Renner (2013); as well as her grandparents and many aunts and uncles of the Schreiber/Schmidt family.
