Verna May (Heupel) Mosbrucker was born on February 28, 1942 to John and Lydia (Fischer) Heupel. She grew up on the family farm south of New Leipzig, ND and graduated from New Leipzig high school in 1960. She married her high school sweetheart Leo Mosbrucker in Mott on June 22, 1960. They farmed with Verna's brother south of New Leipzig from June to December of 1961. On November 14, 1961, Leo and Verna were blessed with their first born son, Bob. One year later, they had their second son, William (Bill) on November 12, 1962 and their daughter Kathy was born four years later on June 22, 1966. From 1961-1983, Leo and Verna, along with their children, kept busy working on the farm and doing chores such as milking cows and raising horses. Verna always loved raising chickens on the farm. While they lived on the farm, the house was always bustling with the children of family and friends, who loved to come visit. In 1983, Leo and Verna started managing the creamery in Elgin and in 1984, Leo and Verna moved a mile west to the Stelter farm. In 1986, Verna started working at Our Place Cafe in Elgin. Here she was able to do what she loved best, cooking and baking. After that, Verna worked for a short time at the nursing home in Mott, ND and from there she went to Jacobson Memorial Hospital and Care Center in Elgin in 1990. Here she provided exceptional care to the residents for over 20 years. Verna was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. Verna was a very loving and caring person. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and was especially known for her kuchen and wedding cakes. She loved embroidering dish towels and being around her kids and grandchildren. Her favorite past-times were reading and doing word finds, and she always has a book in her lunch bag. She was a leader for the Lucky Star 4-H club and a very active member in her church. She had a special bond with Brandie, the family's border collie. Verna especially loved when her honorary grandchildren would come over to the farm to help with branding cattle. Verna passed away at the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin, ND on January 14, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Leo Mosbrucker, of Elgin, sons, Bob (Norma) Mosbrucker, Ashley, ND and Bill (DeAnn) Mosbrucker, Elgin, ND, daugher, Kathy Mosbrucker, Lander, WY; grandchildren, Tesa (Dennis) Gierszewski, Robert Shannon, Charles, Mosbrucker, Jess Beck, Ryan (Sonya) Beck, Chris Mosbrucker, Holly Mosbrucker and fiance Emery Gaugler and Shannon Dillon; great grandchildren, Else Mosbrucker, Dakota Mosbrucker, Dei'Yonna Beck, La'Tisha Beck, Rylee Beck, Cooper Beck and Railyn Beck and numerous nieces and nephews.
