Leonard John Fleck
March 23, 1920 - August 24, 2011
MT. ANGEL - On August 24 in Mt. Angel, Leonard John Fleck passed away surrounded by family, a fitting tribute to a man who placed high importance on his family.
Leonard was born in Richardton, North Dakota, to Rochus and Frances Fleck. He married Elizabeth Magdeline "Betty" Wolf on July 20, 1940, and they were married almost 70 years when Betty passed away in March of 2010. Leonard is survived by, children Fran (Beverly) of Chehalis, Washington, Dean of Mt. Angel, Don and his wife Nann of Mt. Angel, Darreld and his wife Linda of Eugene, and daughter-in-law Arlene of Silverton, in addition to 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Daughter Shirley and sons Dennis and Dwayne preceded him in death.
Leonard served in the CB's and the Navy during World War II. He was assigned to the unit that responded to Nagasaki near the end of the war. He owned and operated Flecks Automotive for over 45 years in Mt. Angel. He spent his retirement years chopping his own firewood and attending nearly every volleyball, basketball and softball game at John F. Kennedy High School supporting his grandchildren. In addition to being devoted to his country and family, he and Betty were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church for over 60 years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at 11:00a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Mt. Angel, Oregon. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel (503) 873-5141.
