- [S8] Information from an informant - Auskunft eines Informanten - Information d'un informateur.
Hello Ursula,
I remember you well (English teacher in Emden) and would have addressed my
suggestion to you but was not sure who at Birkenhoerdt might be receiving
it.
Yes, Annie RUND is the daughter of Valentine RUND and Katherine LUX
missing from your record.
If I read the tombstone at St. Marys Cemetery - Crittenden/Pesotum,
Champaign, Illinois, USA,
(http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=43524962)
correctly, it shows that Annie RUND was born and died on the same day - 28
Mar 1876. This differs from my recollection of being told that Annie was a
sister playmate of my grandfather, William RUND b. 1874, but that she had
died young. In those days, Catholic families would "pray for the souls of
the faithful departed." According to my mother (Christina RUND BATES),
Annie was conspicuously included by name in those household prayers - led
by her father, Wiliam RUND. So my sense is that Annie was born in either
1873 or 1875 - straddling the birth of William in 1874. However, despite
the fact that tombstones were sometimes added several years after a
persons death and thus inaccurate, it seems a fruitless exercise to
dispute records carved in stone.
Regarding Georgie RUND (female). There was a George RUND (male) b. 15 May
1872 Franklin County, Indiana, USA to Valentine and Katherine LUX RUND. He
was baptized 19 May 1872 at Holy Family Church, Oldenburg, Franklin,
Indiana, USA. It appears that he was buried in an unmarked grave 12 Mar
1944 at St. Marys Cemetery, Crittenden/Pesotum, Champaign, Illinois, USA.
I have a copy of the baptismal entry at Oldenburg and the funeral entry at
St. Marys Pesotum/Crittenden. The forename in the Church funeral entry is
unclear, the cemetery interrment records for that period are lost or
misplaced, and not a soul in my mothers generation remembered knowing or
hearing of his 71 year existence! For those reasons, I was reluctant to
record the information to a public site for many years. And you may now
want to add our George RUND to the Birkenhoerdt list.

Regards,
George
