August Dockter
Funeral service for August F. Dockter, 87, of Ashley was Friday, July 16, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Salem Reformed Church. The Rev. Steven Richert officiated.
Burial was in the Venturia Reformed Cemetery with military graveside rites by Frank Piper American Legion Post #53.
August F. Dockter, son of August and Katherine (Stroh) Dockter was born Oct.19, 1916, at Venturia, ND, where he also attended school. He worked on the family farm. He entered the United States Army in 1941 and was stationed at Australia; New Guinea; Papuan, East Indies and Luzon. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to Venturia and began farming with his brother, Otto.
He was united in marriage to Clara F. Dohn on Nov. 21, 1948, in the Bertsch Baptist Church, rural Eureka, SD. They made their home with Otto and Paulina Dockter on the Dockter family farm north of Venturia until 1953. They then moved to Venturia and joined Alvin Dockter in partnership in a service station business for a short time. In 1959, he was appointed acting postmaster and was installed as postmaster of Venturia in October of 1962. He served in that position until June of 1981 when he retired. In March of 2001, they moved into Ashley. His wife died August 21, 2002. He continued to make Ashley his home.
He was a member of Salem Reformed Church where he had been a past Sunday school teacher, elder and treasurer. He was a former member of Venturia Veterans of Foreign War, Silver Hair Legislators and past auditor and treasurer of the City of Venturia.
August enjoyed fishing, making homemade wine and he did a lot of handy work.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas (Barbara) Dockter of Springfield, Ill, August O. (Gloria) Dockter of Fargo and Paul (Tanya) Dockter of Hillsboro, ND, two daughters, Susan (Greg) Glur of Fargo and Bonnie (Willie) Feil of Ashley and nine grandchildren.
His parents, wife, one infant daughter, Marie, and all of his brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Honorary casketbearers were all of his grandchildren.
Casketbearers were August Ritter, Mark Dohn, Wayne Schlepp, Ralph Kusler, LeMar Haas and Ron Meidinger.
The organist was Aaron Rott and the Ashley Men’s Quartet sang.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley was entrusted with the arrangements.
Howard Klipfel
Howard Klipfel, 77, of Kennewick, WA, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Ashley, ND, to Jacob and Louise Klipfel. After nearly 20 years of farming, he moved with his family to the Tri-cities, where he resided 39 years. Howard worked for McCall gas for several years but is remembered as the owner of a propane delivery and service business, Howard’s Propane.
Howard is survived by his wife, Hilda Klipfel; daughter, Linda Johnson (spouse, Ed Johnson) of Pasco, WA; son, Tim Klipfel (spouse, Paula Klipfel) of Walla Walla, WA, and daughter, Amy Klipfel of Kennewick; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2004, at Riverview Heights Cemetery. A memorial service followed at 11 a.m., at Kennewick First Lutheran Church.
