His hobby was woodworking.
He served his country in the US Army; was discharged as a Corporal and was a lifetime member of the VFW of Marietta.

Charles Melvin Ayers, 86, of 31900 Long Run Road, Lewisville, Ohio, (Sycamore Valley), passed away Sunday (July 14, 2013) at his home.
He was born at Sycamore Valley, Ohio, on Aug. 8, 1926, a son of the late Isaac and Carrie Nalley Ayers.
He was a retired employee of the Pattin Manufacturing, Marietta; a U.S. Army veteran and a life member of the V.F.W. Marietta. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothia Hall and Pearl Lindamood; two brothers, Harold and Carl Ayers.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Weckbacher Ayers, whom he married on May 10, 1952; two daughters, Vickie Conger of Woodsfield, Ohio, Donna (Jeff) Winland of Lewisville, Ohio; two sons, John (Dee) Ayers of Lowell, Ohio, Tracey (Denise) Ayers of Marietta; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 S.R. 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, where funeral and military services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, near Graysville, Ohio.
