Private graveside services will be held at Hubbard Union Cemetery for Edgar Davidson Cromie age 89, formerly of Thornhill Rd. Youngstown and DeBary, Florida, who passed away Sunday November 8, 2009 in Vernon Hills, Illinois.
Edgar was born February 15, 1920 in Schenectady, New York a son of Sidney & Racheal Cromie.
He was a retired First Sergeant from the military service, having served in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He also was retired from the Federal Civil Service, having been employed at the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Later he was employed as a civilian by the United States Air Force in Miami, Florida where he retired as an Assistant Director of Administrative Services for Homestead Air Force Base in 1975.
He was a member of the DAV, the VFW, American Legion, and Emmaus Lutheran Church in Orange City, Florida.
His wife the former Aldene Bott whom he married February 1, 1947 passed away August 27, 1989.
He is survived by his daughter the Rev. Dr. Thetis R. Cromie of Chicago, Illinois; his sister Mrs. Jean Altrock of Schenectady, New York.
A memorial service was held Saturday November 14, 2009 at Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Luke in Chicago.
Full military honors will be provided by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard at the Hubbard Union Cemetery. Local funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home Hubbard.
