Bio: Clarence Earl Mickelson, 87, North Platte, died April 3, 2005, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.He was born Oct 15, 1917, at Ellis, to Fredrick William and Florence Elma (Carter) Mickelson.He grew up and attended school in Ellis until age 17, then moved to Alliance to work on a ranch.In 1938, he married Rose Gerhard at Chadron. After their marriage, they moved to Texas, where he was employed by the railroad for four years. They returned to the ranch at Alliance for two years and then worked as a self-employed house painter. He returned to ranching near Arthur for over 20 years and then worked as a carpenter on construction projects until he retired in 1982.On Nov 25, 1976, he married Bernita Nelson Coon at San Diego, CA, and they made their home in North Platte.On Feb 27, 1995, he married Marjorie M Holsten Trobaugh in Grand Island and made their home in North Platte. He was one of the vanishing American real cowboys and enjoyed pool playing and golfing.Mr Mickelson was a member of the First Evangelical Luther Church and member of the Eagles 2839 and the Moose Lodge 551.Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, North Platte, three daughters, Sonja (Larry) Trenary, Arthur, Sherry (Ken) McCarty, Colorado Springs, CO, and Carole Sue (Randy) Amerine, North Platte; two sons, Dennis (Connie) Mickelson, Kearney and Dan Mickelson, Yoder, CO; two sepsons, Richard Trobaugh, Billingham, WA, and Gaylord Trobaugh, North Platte; special family member, Darlene Trobaugh, San Jaun Islands, WA; five sisters, Thelma McCurdy, Gardner, Hazel (Fred) Dirks, Hesston, Florence Harris, Albion, IL, Betty (Charles) Wayman, Ellis and Bonnie DeLong, Ellis; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Mickelson and Donna Mickelson, both of Ellis; and many nieces, nephews and other family.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose in 1975; a daughter, Teresa Rae Mickelson; his parents; five sisters, Olive Hayes, Grace Crist, Alice Rosendahl, Mildred Parker and Elma Schuster; and two brothers, Ralph and Everett Mickelson.A memorial has been established to the Lincoln County Senior Center.
