Mary M. Yost
Mary Margaret Gribble Yost, 86, of Barlow, Ohio, passed away Dec. 11, 2005.
She was born July 1, 1919, to Jean L. and Alma Morris Gribble.
Mary and Jim Yost were the proud parents of six sons, Bill A. Yost and wife, Kathy, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Don A. Yost and wife, Darlene, of Barlow, the late Jay O. Yost and wife, Marilou, of Belcamp, Md., Charles Jean Yost and wife, Mary of Barlow, Le A. Yost and wife, Linda, of Barlow and Linn E. Yost and wife, Betty, of Barlow; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Ruth (Gribble) Varner of Yellow Springs; and three brothers, Robert Gribble of Layman, James Gribble (Jean) of Layman and Bruce Gribble (Jean) of Canton also survive.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 58 years, James O. Yost. Mr. Yost had been co-owner/operator of Seaman and Yost General Store in Barlow for 35 years.
Mary taught home economics for 21 years at Lower Salem, Vincent, Barlow Local and Warren high schools. Mary served on the Warren Board of Education and on the board of the Washington County Public Library and was a major supporter of the new Barlow branch that opened in 1997. She was an active member for more than 40 years in the Barlow Presbyterian Church. In 1992, Mary received Woman of the Year Award by Zonta International.
She was an active guide on the Nature Trail at Washington County Vocational School. In 1989, Mary, along with Florence Tackett, developed a nature discovery trail for Barlow Vincent School. One of her greatest passions was for nature, birds, flowers and trees and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of feeding birds and wildlife.
The Barlow Chapel of Cawley and Peoples Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be a gathering of family and friends to greet visitors from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and visitation from 10-11 a.m. Friday, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m.
By her request, "Scatter my ashes to the wind to help the flowers grow. If by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. Plant a tree to shade someone who will later walk the paths we have enjoyed."
