William Friedrich Lentz Birth: 15 May 1852 Germany Death: 22 Nov 1909 Pennsylvania, USA Burial: Hollenback Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA Plot: 1625 N 1/2 Memorial #: 88558171 Bio: William was born in Germany, most likely in Mecklenburg, Prussia (later Germany) and immigrated to the United States at the age of 3 with his parents; Henry and Caroline Lentz who settled in Ashland, Pa. He had a number of siblings; Henry, Frederick, Lizzie and Lena. William worked as a carpenter. In 1876, at the age of 23,he married Elisabeth Stoebener. The couple raised ten children, nine of whom lived. In the 1880 census, William and Elizabeth lived at 152 Fell Street in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. At the time of the 1900 census, William and Elizabeth were living on Park Avenue in the same city. He reported that he could read, write and speak English. William owned the house in which they lived although it was mortgaged. He was a naturalized citizen, most likely made a citizen upon his own father gaining citizenship. William became ill and was admitted to the Retreat Hospital in Luzerne, Pa., where he died in 1909 at the age of 57. Cause of death was listed as Organic Brain Disease and Arteriosclerosis. He had been hospitalized for 27 days.He is buried in Hollenback Cemetery at Wilkes Barre, Pa.
