Constance 'Connie' Kopecky

Mina: Funeral service for Constance "Connie" Kopecky, 77, of Mina will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Schriver's memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen. Pastor James E. Clarke will be officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the mortuary.
Connie passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Constance Miller was born Aug. 11, 1931, to Lloyd H. and Marguerite (Hartman) Miller at Leola, S.D. She was raised in the Leola Wetonka area with the help of her Aunt Marjorie Miller-Marks. She attended school at Wetonka and Barnard. She also attended Northern State Teachers College, where she received a teaching certificate. Connie taught rural School near Mina, S.D., for a few years. Connie married Melvin "Bud" Kopecky June 25, 1950, at Aberdeen. They owned and operated the Westport Grocery Store for a short time. Connie later worked for Bud Tonner at the Piggly Wiggly Store in Aberdeen. Connie and Bud later opened Dutch's Grocery Store in Aberdeen. They also opened a Drive-In Restaurant and catering service, which later was known as Pa's Tavern. In 1973, they moved to a farm near Mina and have resided there since that time. They farmed for a few years and then returned to the restaurant and catering business. They opened Dutch's on West Sixth Avenue, where they worked side by side until the time of her death. Bud and Connie are truly grateful to Diane Dumire, a trusted employee for over 25 years. Connie enjoyed gardening, bowling, puzzles, fishing, watching old Westerns on TV and also watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. Connie was also an avid hunter. Connie always had a big heart and especially enjoyed children. Connie is a 50-year plus member of the Women's Fraternal Order of the Eagles where she served as past president for two terms. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose.
Surviving Connie are her loving husband of 58 years, Bud of Mina; one aunt, Frenda Wallace of Rochester, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Pallbearers will be Terry Kopecky, Greg Kopecky, Gary "Smoke" Kopecky, Dave Goodman, Russ Miller, Tom Johannsen and Dennis Moser. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Connie's family, friends and employees.
