Birth: Apr. 23, 1906 Eureka McPherson County South Dakota, USA Death: Feb. 22, 2002 Yakima Yakima County Washington, USA Northwest Blade, Eureka, SD, Mar. 20, 2002 — Rites Held For Former Eurekan The funeral for Hertha Werre, 95, of Yakima, Wash., was Thursday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. at Langevin-Mussette Funeral Home. Burial was in West Hills Memorial Park. She died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Chinook Convalescent Center. Hertha Bender was born April 23, 1906, at Eureka to Jacob and Christina (Martell) Bender. She was raised and educated in Eureka, where she later married Ivan Werre on Sep. 5, 1926. The couple moved to Yakima in 1941, and owned and operated Werre's Market in Yakima from 1942-57. She then worked for the George F. Joseph Fruit Company as a sorter. He died Sept. 28, 1979. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Yakima. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and her flower garden. Survivors include one son, Vernon (Mavis Guerin) Werre of Yakima; on daughter, Elaine (Don) Martin of Madras, Ore.; one sister, Magdalena Lapp of California, 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
